Raising A Sensory Smart Child: The
Definitive Handbook for Helping
Your Child with Sensory Integration
Issues

I would agree with the subtitle "...definitive handbook". In my
opinion, this book would be a great asset to any parent who had a child
diagnosed with sensory integration problems. It covers every aspect
including how to recognize the problem, how to treat it, where to find
resources, types of activities to be done, etc. There is an excellent
checklist in Chapter 3 which I believe would be of great help if
presented to a doctor or OT or other professional who might be involved
in diagnosis or treatment. Information is given on how
and where to obtain the best
professional help (including material on Behavioral Optometry),
numerous case studies, and
best of all, very practical advise on handling children with these types
of issues. Chapter 7's "Practical Solutions for Everyday Sensory
Problems" alone would probably be worth the price of the book to many
frustrated parents. There are also lists
and photographs of toys
and other equipment included,
so I believe this one book "says it all". (The foreword to the book was
written by Temple Grandin.)
I believe that every Behavioral Optometrist should have a copy of this
in the "library" so that it can be recommended to a parent who might
have a child with these types of problems.
